The first player on the list is the former Australian captain Ricky Thomas Ponting. He captained his side in 230 ODI matches and recorded victory in 165 matches. 51 matches were lost, whereas 2 matches ended up in ties and 12 in no result.
With a total of 218 matches as captain, Stephen Fleming from New Zealand ranks second in the list. He won 98 matches as well as lost 106 matches within the time span of 10 (1997-2007) years. He ended up the cricketing career with 48.04%-win percentage.
Next is Mahendra Singh Dhoni on our list of most ODI matches as captain, who is the most successful captain till now. 
Most ODI Matches as Captain

He captained the Indian side in 200 ODI matches, in which India won 110 matches, whereas 74 matches gone to the opposite side. His era spreads across 2007 to 2018. The amazing thing is that Dhoni is the only ODI captain of the world, who have witnessed 5 tied games.
In the 4th spot, it is Arjun Ranatunga from Sri Lanka. He captained the Sri Lankan side in 193 matches, in which SL won 89 and lost 95.

Further, 1 match ended in tie, whereas 8 games had no result. Ranatunga’s captaincy period spanned across 1988 to 1999 to finish with the win percentage of 48.37.
Now is the turn for Australian legendary Allen Border. He Captained his side in 178 matches, in which Australia won massive 107 matches. On the other hand, he lodged only 67 defeats under his record. Further, he led the Australian team from 1985 to 1994.

Next on the list is the Indian legend M Azharuddin. He led the Indian side in 174 international clashes and lodged victory in 90 matches. India lost 76 ODI matches under his captaincy, while 2 ended in tie. His rein period spread from 1990 to 1999.
