A Brief Introduction
The Punjabi lad Shubman Singh Gill was born on 8th September
1999 in his native district Fazilka in Punjab. He is a right-handed batsman
paying for the Punjab Ranji team.
Further, Gill made his Ranji debut against Bengal in the 2017-18 Ranji
season and hit a half-century in it. Then he scored 129 runs in the next game
against Services team. After around two years, he made it to the junior International
Indian cricket team in January 2019.
His international journey started with India’s U-19 cricket team when he
joined the team as a vice-captain for the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2018. The
tournament yielded a huge success for him, and he finished it with 372 runs at
a stunning average of 124.00.
He batted on number 3 and helped India to clinch the fourth Under-19 World
Cup title for India. Officials adjudged him as the “Player of the Tournament”. India’s
senior cricket greats like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, V.V.S. Laxman, and
Sourav Ganguly offer great praise to him for his outstanding 102 not out in the
semi-final against arch-rival Pakistan.
Shubman Gill: Early Life
Shubman was born in Punjab in 1999. As far as his family is related, his
father’s name is Lakhwinder Singh Gill and his mother’s name is Keerat Kaur
Gill. Moreover, Shubman also has a sister named Shahneel Kaur Gill.
Once, Shubman’s father spoke about his son’s cricket passion to the correspondents.
He said, “it was only a bat and ball that Shubman used to play and never demand
other toys. He loves his bat and ball and most surprisingly, he also used to sleep
with his bat and ball.”
He further added, “We all supported Shubman to a great extent and done
what we can do for him. His ultimate dream was always to be an International cricketer
to play for the Indian team. Therefore, his dream became our dream eventually,
and we dedicate around 15 years on him to enable him to become a world-class
cricketer. It has become usual for us to skip our work or several family
functions like marriage ceremonies of our relatives and dear ones. This is just
because to devote full time on his game.”
His father Lakhwinder Singh also asked the hired helpers for agricultural
activities on the farm to throw balls at Gill in the nets to help him practice
batting. Shubman’s father identified hidden cricketing talent in his son and
moved to Mohali in search of professional coaching. They managed to live in a
rented house near the PCA stadium.
It was the bowling camp organized
by the former Indian pacer Karsan Ghavri in the PCA Stadium. Shubman was practicing
anonymously in the small academy opposite to the stadium. Ghavri needed some
kids to bat against young pacers. Shubman reached the spot, and it was when his

Shubman Gill made entered the domestic cricket circuit in 2014, when he
joined the Punjab Under-16 cricket team. It was his splendid time as he recorded
an unbeaten double-century in the Vijay Merchant Trophy.

competition, where he also shared a 587-run stand with his team-mate, Nirmal
Singh.
After that, Gill made his List-A debut for Punjab in the Vijay Hazare
Trophy 2016–17. He also made his first-class (Ranji Cricket) debut for Punjab
in the same year.

Shubman Gill was making his impact on the Indian Cricket and hinting to be a

Consequently, he was listed in India C’s squad for the Deodhar
Trophy2018–19. The tremendous batting form also assured his entry to the 2018–19
Ranji Trophy.
International Career
Shubman broke into the Indian
U-19 team in 2017 to represent the nation at the international level. He was successful in impressing the selectors to win their nod via spectacular
performance in the domestic circuit.
India clinched the bilateral
series against England in the same year, and Gill was also the part of that
side. It further resulted in the Shubman Gill to be appointed as the
vice-captain for the U19 Cricket World Cup 2018.

However, Kolkata Knight Riders made the final bid and clicked him against Rs 1.80 crore. In this IPL season, he scored 296 runs in 14 matches at an impressive average of 32.88.

Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2018.
He
shared a world record 587-run partnership with Nirmal Singh.
Being
superstitious, Gill always keeps a red handkerchief when he goes to bat.

the age of 8, Shubman used to wake up at early 3:30 am. Then he spends two
hours on his cricket practice from 4 to 6 AM. After finishing the training
session, he gets ready for the school and moves to the playground again for an evening
practice session.
